Under ICC Code of Conduct Article 2.22, teams are fined 5% of their match fees for every over short, up to a maximum of 50%. As this was a first-time minor breach, the penalty was limited to the minimum: 5% of each player’s match fee.
The fine itself is relatively small—but the timing couldn’t be worse. India now faces England in a do-or-die Group A fixture. With both teams vying for a semifinal spot, every psychological and logistical edge matters. The over-rate issue has sparked internal discussions about time management between overs, field placements, and DRS reviews—areas the coaching staff is now urgently addressing.
