Pakistan Airstrike Kills Afghan Cricketers: ACB Demands Action

Pakistan Airstrike Kills Afghan Cricketers: ACB Demands Global Condemnation

In a shocking and tragic turn of events, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has accused Pakistan of carrying out an airstrike that killed three of its promising domestic cricketers. The incident has not only plunged the cricketing community into mourning but has also triggered a major diplomatic and sporting fallout.

Who Were the Cricketers Killed?

The three young athletes identified by the ACB are:

  • Kabeer Agha Argon
  • Sibghatullah Zirok
  • Haroon (full name not widely reported)

These players were among eight people killed in the airstrike in the Urgun district of Paktika province . Their deaths represent a devastating loss for Afghan cricket, which has been steadily rising on the international stage despite immense challenges.

ACB’s Strong Accusation and Immediate Actions

The ACB did not mince words in its official statement. A spokesperson declared, “We have clear evidence that the attack was by Pakistan” . In response, the board has taken the drastic step of pulling Afghanistan out of the upcoming T20 tri-series in Pakistan, a tournament that also featured Zimbabwe .

Zimbabwe has since been confirmed as the replacement team for the series. The national players have reportedly expressed their full support for the board’s decision to withdraw, standing in solidarity with their fallen teammates .

Call for International Intervention

Going a step further, the ACB has formally requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to take “decisive” and “firm measures” against Pakistan in light of the incident . The board is urging the global cricketing community to condemn the attack and hold the responsible party accountable.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also issued a statement, expressing its “deep sorrow on the tragic loss of three young Afghan cricketers” . This international support adds weight to the ACB’s plea for justice.

What Happens Next?

The situation remains highly sensitive. The ACB’s allegations, if substantiated, could have far-reaching consequences for cricketing ties between the two nations and Pakistan’s standing in the international cricket community. All eyes are now on the ICC and other global bodies to see how they will respond to this unprecedented crisis.
