Former Australia captain Michael Clarke has thrown his weight behind Virat Kohli ahead of the crucial third ODI in Sydney, predicting the Indian superstar will bounce back in style—even after registering two ducks earlier in the series. Speaking ahead of the series decider, Clarke not only tipped Kohli to be the top run-scorer in the match but also forecast an Indian victory to close out the ODI leg on a high.
Despite Virat Kohli’s rare slump—scoring back-to-back ducks in Perth and Melbourne—Clarke emphasized that class never truly disappears. “He’s got two ducks, yes,” Clarke acknowledged, “but if there’s one player who knows how to reset and dominate, it’s Virat.”
Clarke pointed to Kohli’s unmatched hunger for runs and his history of turning adversity into triumph. “He’s been here before. Remember his 2018-19 comeback? He’ll use this as fuel,” the ex-skipper added.
Clarke didn’t stop at Kohli. He also predicted that Australia’s pace spearhead Josh Hazlewood would finish as the leading wicket-taker in the Sydney ODI, citing his mastery in home conditions and ability to exploit the SCG’s bounce.
Interestingly, despite backing an Australian bowler to dominate, Clarke still expects India to win the match. “India’s middle order is clicking, and they’ll want momentum heading into the T20Is. I think they’ll pull it off in Sydney,” he said.
History may be on Kohli’s side. At the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), he’s consistently delivered in ODIs:
| Matches | Runs | Average | Highest Score | 50s/100s |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 | 328 | 65.6 | 117 | 2 / 1 |
His century in 2019 at the SCG remains one of his most elegant overseas knocks—proof that the venue brings out his best.
Cricket fans across India are rallying behind Kohli, with #BackTheKing trending on social media. Fantasy cricket platforms report a 68% selection rate for Kohli in Sydney contests—underscoring public faith in his redemption arc.
Beyond pride, the match sets the tone for the upcoming T20I series. A win would give India psychological momentum, while Australia aims to regain dominance at home. With both teams testing bench strength and strategies, the Sydney ODI is more than just a series decider—it’s a preview of future battles.
