The confetti has barely settled, and the nation is still buzzing with the historic triumph of the Indian women’s cricket team at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. Yet, a burning question remains: Will there be a grand victory parade to celebrate this landmark achievement? The answer, for now, is a resounding not yet.
In a statement that has left fans eagerly waiting, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that no official plans for a victory parade have been finalised . BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia explained that the board is currently awaiting the return of its senior officials from the crucial ICC meetings in Dubai before making any concrete decisions.
“No victory parade planned yet, will plan accordingly after ICC meet,” Saikia stated, tempering the immediate expectations of a nationwide celebration .
Amidst the World Cup euphoria, another issue is on the BCCI’s agenda: the missing ICC Women’s Asia Cup 2025 trophy. The board is reportedly “a little unhappy” that the trophy has not been handed over to them even a month after their victory .
Saikia is optimistic, however, and believes the matter will be resolved swiftly. “The trophy will come, and that is for certain, because this trophy has been won by India hands down. Only the timeline has to be fixed,” he told ANI . The BCCI plans to formally raise this issue with the ICC during the ongoing meetings in Dubai .
While the parade is on hold, the focus is shifting to the well-deserved recognition for the players. Union Ministers and state Chief Ministers have already taken to social media to hail the “Women in Blue” for scripting a glorious chapter in Indian sporting history . The players are expected to be feted with cash awards and other honours from various state governments and the central government in the coming weeks.
Although fans are eager to see their heroes on a victory lap, the delay is strategic. The ICC meetings in Dubai are a critical juncture where major decisions about the future of international cricket are made. By waiting for their officials to return, the BCCI can align the victory parade with a more comprehensive plan, potentially integrating it with other celebratory events. This ensures that the team receives the grand, unified celebration they truly deserve.
The nation’s patience is being tested, but it’s a small price to pay for a perfectly orchestrated celebration. The BCCI’s cautious approach shows a commitment to getting it right. For a team that has shattered records and inspired a generation, a half-baked parade simply won’t do.
For now, the streets are quiet, but the anticipation is louder than ever. All eyes are on the BCCI’s next move, and the promise of a magnificent welcome for our champions is a promise the entire country is waiting to see fulfilled.
